What kind of cake?

Mmm, that’s a bit difficult to pin point exact cakes were made during the time. No one really keeps record of what they bake haha. Besides, bakeries were often limited by transportation companies, they couldn’t bake a lot in the first place but nevertheless, many small bakeries flourished during the late 19th century to early 20th century.

One thing’s certain, they were packed with small confectionaries. Y’know, something like croissants. Easy handheld food, but that didn’t limit them to baking chocolate cake for some kid’s birthday party if requested. Since the cottonseed industry was booming, people also made cottonseed meal cakes which were quite useful if you had livestock or wanted to go fishing–not exactly recommended for human digestion. Not only that, milling was already a thing before the civil war, so it wasn’t much of a surprise.

I wasn’t really part of the baking scene during the time, I was more concerned with oil. I didn’t have much time during the 1900s to visit bakeries too often or even bake in the first place, but that’s pretty much a small and simple summary of what was happening with the baking industry from what I’ve seen. Nothing special, really.

Speaking of the devil, I baked some cupcakes for church today and there’s quite a few left. You can go grab some if you like.
